Artist Statement
"I am inspired by nature's intelligence and the fragile balance of our ecosystems. I am influenced by the energy of certain places and the transcendent beauty in small moments. My work attempts to capture some of my experiences in nature through color and mark making and to tell a layered story of environment and our interconnectedness."— BETH O'CONNOR
ABOUT the ARTIST
Beth O'Connor established a love of the natural world in the woods, creeks and mountains of Tennessee as a child and young adult. She studied painting and design at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
After moving to Florida in 2006, she started working professionally as a muralist and developed a love of working in a large-scale format. She also maintains a personal practice of art making and has shown works locally and throughout the east coast and central Florida.
Beth's recent canvas work combines her love of nature and environmentalism to create works that focus on endangered native Florida plants and wildlife. Her style encompasses elements of surrealism, abstraction and pattern making. She often exhibits her work locally, and has two paintings ("Desert Memory" and "The Sound of Small Things") in OMAM’s “Holding Space” Pop-Up at the PAC Exhibit.
