Pop-Up Window Exhibit @ 9 West Granada Blvd, Ormond Beach
Artist Statement
"Inspired by the bright hues of my Indian heritage and Miami, along with my decade-plus experience as a civil rights advocate, my pieces are exuberant, joyful meditations designed to encapsulate hope and possibility in an era of rising autocracy. To achieve my vision, I utilize acrylic paint, and mix colors as I complete each piece. My art is also infused with the energy of the music I am listening to as I paint. Creating art is a deeply healing and freeing process for me. With each painting and color choice, I am sharing a piece of my vivacious spirit with the world. I believe my art is a manifestation of the cosmic beauty that flows within me, and all of us."— SHREE CHAUHAN
ABOUT this COLLECTION
The pieces included in this exhibit are part of the Fresh Collection, which I released in June, 2021. The work is inspired by nature—from salty ocean breezes, to the heat of an arid desert.
During the early days of the pandemic, connecting with one another was challenging for many of us. Thus, we may have also had an urge to reconnect with the outdoors. In that sense, the Fresh Collection is meant to transport you elsewhere, even when you are indoors.
This series is also meant to build upon two techniques that I debuted in 2020. For each piece, I applied what I call my drip technique, which I achieve with a rounded brush. I also incorporated an ombre wave or shape into each painting. I hope the Fresh Collection brings you joy and light, as we begin to emerge from these dark times.
ABOUT the ARTIST
"An optimistic daydreamer from a young age, I see possibility and beauty everywhere. To manifest the potential I see in the world, I started my career as an educator in Miami, and then as a civil rights advocate in Washington, DC. In late 2018, I moved back to Central Florida and my creativity bloomed in a new direction—as an artist. With my life in transition, I found joy in creating, and quickly amassed a collection of over 200 pieces in a few months. At first, I enjoyed making smaller pieces with watercolor. Now, I work with larger canvases and acrylic. I released my first cohesive collection of paintings in June 2021. My muses include the female figure, nature, architecture and color—especially metallics and neons. Art Deco, Impressionism, Wassily Kandinsky, Gustav Klimt, Georgia O'Keeffe, and other artists also serve as inspirations for me. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Communications in Motion Pictures and Political Science at the University of Miami in 2005 and my Master of Public Administration from American University in 2010."
