The Girl Who Wore Freedom Screening & Trench Art Display
UPDATE: Ticket registration for both screenings have closed as capacity has been reached. To join the wait list, please email agreen@ormondartmuseum.org.
Join us Thursday, July 13, for a special community program celebrating freedom and those who protect it. This ticketed-event includes a screening of The Girl Who Wore Freedom, a documentary highlighting the untold stories of D-Day from the men, women, and children who lived through German occupation and Allied liberation of Normandy, France. Admission is free, but tickets are required as seats are limited.
The 3:00 and 6:00pm screenings will take place inside Parish Hall at St. James Episcopal Church, 44 S. Halifax Drive. Movie theater style snacks will be available for purchase. An interactive Q&A with the director will immediately follow.
Film goers at both screenings are invited to the 5:00pm wine & cheese reception inside the Ormond Memorial Art Museum, 78 E. Granada Blvd., with director Christian Taylor and other special guests. Taylor found inspiration for the film in 2015 when she followed her son, Sgt. Hunter Taylor of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division, to an annual D-Day ceremony in Normandy, and experienced one of the most patriotic events she had ever seen.
Also inside OMAM, a special display of trench art will be on exhibit inside the reception gallery. The works were created by WWI and WWII soldiers using brass or other metals found in trenches, and are on loan from the Veterans Museum & Education Center in Daytona Beach.
About the Film
Powerful and deeply personal, THE GIRL WHO WORE FREEDOM tells the stories of an America that lived its values, instilling a pride in country that is in danger of becoming a relic of the past. THE GIRL WHO WORE FREEDOM reminds viewers of who we are as Americans when we are at our very best. When we are standing up for those who are poor, oppressed, especially those whose freedoms and liberties have been stolen. It will be a reminder that individual and national acts of bravery, care and compassion have the power to impact others for generations.

Support OMAM's Mission
The Ormond Memorial Art Museum & Gardens was founded in 1946 to inspire the community through art and nature while honoring those who fought for freedom. Today, the museum continues to uphold that mission by hosting events that foster military appreciation, and by offering free art outreach programing to veterans and current service members. Contributions made through this online form help support those efforts.
