Just before planting season, get your knowledge of indigo from an indigo grower, harvester and dyer. Learn about local indigo culture, history and the role indigo plays in the handmade Maker’s Movement. Resources, fiber art, surface design techniques for patterns and resists including Shibori techniques. All levels along with returning students are welcome. Learn from seed to making cake indigo for your dye powder. A classroom web site is set-up just for participants to refer to on what is learned in class along with vocabulary, techniques, dye recipes and visuals to continue the process at home. See and touch the indigo plant and take home a small packet of 2018 harvested seeds.
All supplies included. Participants are invited to bring their own fabric, vintage linens or clothing to dye. Test materials for examples are included. Be sure all materials are 100% cotton, linen, silk or hemp, no synthetics please. Pieces should be pre-washed in a low PH soap and no dryer sheets used. $118 (members) / $131 (future members)
